Welcome to Hambledon, Hampshire

The Cradle of Cricket and the rebirth place of English commercial wine production. A memorial commemorating this cricketing history is located at Broadhalfpenny Down opposite the aptly named The Bat & Ball pub. The other pub in the village commemorates the other aspect of Hambledon history and is named The Vine.

The village nestles along a valley and ancient riverbed running down from the South Downs. For 3000 years there has been a settlement in Hambledon and the human footprint of history can still be discerned; a Roman villa, a Saxon church and significant Norman and Medieval buildings. Hambledon is set in typical southern English countryside within the South Downs National Park, and is surrounded by sweeping chalk hills and farmland and splendid woods. It is within the district of Winchester City Council.
